Bio

Even the most demanding of electro connoisseurs would have difficulty finding fault with Olivier Mateu’s CV. The Parisian has rarely let his standards slip in a career spanning almost twenty years, ever since he started out in 1999 as one half of The Youngsters alongside Gilles Escoffier. Having produced two legendary albums for Laurent Garnier’s F Communications label (in 2001 and 2004), as well as a succession of EPs for Ovum, G-Funk and 20:20 Vision, Mateu eventually launched a solo career as Rodriguez Jr in 2006, with a debut EP entitled Alternative Schemes For The Younger. There followed a purple patch in the recording studio, as he produced no fewer than six releases in 2008 alone, with a sound ranging from minimal techno to deep house (on 1977, for example, a track released that year by Giant Wheel).

Even by his own high standards, 2010 was a landmark year for Rodriguez Jr, as it brought about his first release on Mobilee, the renowned Berlin label run by Anja Schneider. It marked the start of a long and fruitful collaboration between French artist and German institution: between 2010 and 2017, he produced seven EPs and two albums (one of which, Bittersweet, is widely accepted to be a tech house masterpiece).
