Bio
For many, musician and poet Moor Mother is one of today’s finest exponents of “hardcore poetry”. However, she prefers to describe herself as an afro-futurist. Whatever the label, Moor Mother specialises in brutal, wild, experimental music punctuated by scathing outbursts of rapping. Viscerally political, she uses her tracks to air grievances about racial conflict and social inequality.
Her most recent album Fetish Bones, recorded at her home studio, was constructed as a sort of time machine: a compilation of sounds outlining the path that has led us to where we are and the future that we are building. “The idea is to travel throughout the race riots from 1866 to the present time,” was how she described this concept album, released in 2016.
While each recorded track is an achievement in itself, together they serve as no more than a glimpse into the presence and power that Moor Mother exudes during her live performances.
