Bio
Very few French electronic artists can match the audacity of Romain Delahaye, a.k.a. Molécule. Relentlessly seeking to push back the limits of the mind and its creativity, Molécule is blessed with a determination that is grounded in his intense desire to capture the sonic waves of ‘life’s moments’. Listening to his music is like holding a mirror to the bonds that link humans and the environment, in all their complexity. French philosopher Vercors said that Man seeks to distance himself from his natural surroundings, that he observes nature from afar like an individual looking down on the crowd. Molécule’s achievement is to have successfully grasped that he, himself, is a fully integral part of that nature.
This urge to confront the extremes of nature with his music first manifested itself in his concept album 60°40’ Nord, recorded in its entirety over the course of several weeks aboard the Joseph Roty II fishing boat. Emboldened by a level of success that he did not necessarily expect, Romain Delahaye repeated the trick in 2017, travelling to the village of Tiniteqilaaq in Greenland with director Vincent Bonnemazou. Fittingly, the resulting record is tinged with an icy, spatial quality, espousing the silence and spectral shades of the extreme north. Not one note has been reworked or airbrushed since Molécule returned from the arctic territories. In May he is set to embark on a new adventure, scaling Le Sucre’s rooftop to deliver a raw live set of rare sensitivity and passion.
