Macadam Mambo is more than just a label; it’s a veritable Lyon institution. Originally created by Sacha Mambo in 2009, the imprint has built up a diverse collection of over 60 releases to its name. Having initially focused on disco edits, Macadam Mambo has evolved and now embraces Balearic sounds and calmer, less traditionally club-friendly ambiances, in keeping with the latest trends on the Lyon nightlife scene. Eras and styles may come and go, however, but it is the reliable quality of the label’s music that has earned it a stellar reputation in its hometown and beyond.
The imprint’s gems include Japanese artist Mori Ra (and his excellent Sleeping Industry), Philip Demuth a.k.a. Rutes, local duo The Pilotwings (they of the sumptuous Une Nuit au Boxboys), Eva Geist and Abschaum, who released a widely acclaimed album in 2017. Not to mention Sacha Mambo himself, who has personally been behind some of Macadam Mambo’s finest releases, including 2016 disco anthem The Devil Dance. He shares the bill with his partner in crime Guillaume des Bois, another prominent figure on the Lyon DJing scene who tirelessly trawls the city’s clubs in search of the perfect groove. It is surely only a matter of time until he finds it – and when he does, you can bet your bottom dollar that Macadam Mambo won’t be far away.
