Bio
The spiritual successors of Lunatic, FF, Salif and Oxmo Puccino, La Smala is a rap crew from Brussels made up of F.L.O., Seyté, Senamo, Rizla, Shawn-h and DJ X-Men. Created in 2009 by members of the Exutoire Collectif and Nouvelle Génération, La Smala are at the forefront of the new wave of Belgian rap music. After four albums, they took a prolonged leave of absence in 2015. The year 2018 brought glad tidings of a triumphant return, however, in the shape of new album 11h59, released on 28 January.
This latest release sees La Smala experimenting with their old school rap sound, and occasionally blending it with melancholic trap, like on the track 00h00. The result is a record that is resolutely grounded in both rap tradition and modern sounds.
