Belgrade’s electronic scene has recently been injected with renewed vigour and purpose by a handful of artist-activists. As the head of Drugstore, one of the Serbian capital’s most iconic nightspots, Kӣr (real name Bane Jovančević) is one of those whose stamina and stubbornness have fuelled a thriving local scene that is suddenly attracting international attention. Having played sets at the biggest festivals in the Balkans – from Exit to Outernational Days – in addition to clubs in Stockholm, Hamburg, Athens and Rome, Kӣr has honed a unique blend of techno, drone and noise, which he supplements with throbbing tribal rhythms.
