Bio

At the very least, you could say that James Holden hasn’t rested on his laurels since his 2016 appearance at Nuits Sonores. The Londoner, who used the occasion to introduce his album Outdoor Museum of Fractals to cross-Channel audiences, has been his usual prolific self since then, recording the soundtrack to the documentary A Cambodian Spring in 2017 and following it up with his fourth album The Animal Spirits, which has been released on his own Border Community label.

A choice slice of psychedelia that sounds like the bastard child of Boards of Canada and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, the album is delivered live by his eponymous group, made up of artists Tom Page, Marcus Hamblett, Liza Bec, Lascelle Gordon, Camilo Tirado and France’s very own Etienne Jaumet.
