Bio

Takashige Miyawaki is one of those Japanese artists who consider music to be a universal vector for feelings and experiences. Forever broadening his horizons, J.A.K.A.M. – also known under the alias of Moochy – seeks inspiration throughout all four corners of the globe. Artistic standard-bearer for Tokyo label Crosspoint and recently signed to Tel Avivian imprint Malka Tuti, this child of the nineties, brought up on a diet of hip-hop, jazz and world music, is a one-man encapsulation of the cosmopolitanism that has long been a feature of the Japanese scene.

For this exclusive live performance at Nuits Sonores 2018, J.A.K.A.M. will be accompanied on stage by Nicolas Taite on drums, Antony Gatta on Gnawa and Alaoui percussion, David Doris on Maloya percussion and multi-instrumentalist Ko Shin Moon (sitar, baglama, Thai phin, among others). Ritual Forces, then, which are equipped to inexorably push the dancefloor towards a deeply organic trance.

As with Kuniyuki Takahashi and Yoshinori Hayashi before him, Miyawaki’s experimental productions explore sounds from the Arab (see his exceptional Wabi Sabi EP), African and Latin worlds, without ever betraying the bass music and tribal house sensibilities that have marked out his finest work.
