HAAi, real name Teneil Throssel, moved to Europe six years ago from her native Australia, where she had been a singer with the psychedelic rock group Dark Bells. Soon after her arrival, and following a trip to the Berghain, this collector of Turkish funk and Nigerian and Kenyan beats fell in love with life in the northern hemisphere.
From her early nights at the Ridley Road Bar up until the present day, there is really only one adjective to describe HAAi’s career: meteoric. At ease rubbing shoulders with international DJing royalty (witness her back-to-back sets with The Black Madonna, Daniel Avery and Midland), she belatedly released her first production in 2017. Issued by Coconut Beats, Be Good is a heady concoction of percussion, techno and her own vocals.
