Bio

There are many producers who mix records, and plenty of DJs who produce music, but very few are as gifted in both disciplines as Floating Points. Over the course of a career spanning nearly a decade, Sam Shepherd has won admirers the world over thanks to his capacity to infuse house and techno compositions with his love for jazz, R’n’B and sound experimentation.

Co-founder of the excellent Eglo label (home to FunkinEven and Fatima, among others) and a collector of rare and wonderful vinyl (English DJ Gilles Peterson is said to have swapped a car for one of his records), he is also a qualified neuroscientist (a degree that he read at the same time as pursuing his career in music). And, as an obsessive perfectionist, he even once went so far as to design his own mixer, having felt let down by the options available on the market.

It was, however, while on a plane to Lyon that he wrote his most beautiful piece (objectively speaking, of course). Having named it Nuits Sonores, he went on to mix the new tune live on stage only hours later. When that melody rings out across the forecourt of La Sucrière, a beautiful circle will be gloriously closed.
