A side project of Jacco Gardner and Nic Mauscovic, Bruxas’ disco and house music is tinged with a tropical latino feel fuelled by South American percussion instruments, vintage synths and catchy bass lines. Their latest EP, entitled Más Profundo and released on Dekmantel in June 2017, encapsulates a new vibe that has been taking hold of Amsterdam for some time now: mind-blowing music, jazz influences, steamy analogue sounds and a tempo set between 110 and 115 bpm.
The colourful and airy feel of the duo’s music is reflective of a broader resurgence of interest in Balearic music, an antidote to the prevailing trend towards more industrial and hypnotic sounds. The Carte Blanche Amsterdam programme is a privileged opportunity to see the eclecticism of the Dutch scene at first hand, and nowhere is it more apparent than in the music of Bruxas.
