While it may be easy to consider the figure of Laurent Garnier as a monument on the French electronic scene, he is not the type to sit around gathering dust. A producer and DJ of international repute, he spends his life forging new paths, warily avoiding anything that resembles a beaten track. And nowhere has this philosophy been more amply demonstrated than over the course of his fifteen appearances at Nuits Sonores: among other adventures, the maestro has treated us to a self-curated NS Days line-up, audiovisual performances, DJ sets, live sets, sets for children, back-to-back sets and even a 100% UK set in 2017.
Garnier’s humility and integrity, in addition to his outstanding accomplishments, have been enough to earn him a French knighthood in arts and letters. When he is not playing a hands-on role in shaping the future of electronic music, he spends his time diligently surveying the scene for the latest talent. With boundless charisma and an unrivalled ear for the freshest sounds, Laurent Garnier has built a career like no other. Seeing him return to Nuits Sonores to close this 16th edition of the festival is more than the cherry on the cake; it’s the firework over the monument.
